Personal growth requires change.

Creating new habits requires change.

Getting more out of life requires change.

Moving through the seasons of life require change.

Change is required for life.   Every moment of your life some small change is taking place, growth is change.   Now if we were meant to change and grow why is it that so many people resist change?

Comfortable living has become an antidote for change and growth.   More and more people are turning to experiences that numb themselves to the very challenges of life that if engaged with produce growth and new potential.   Look at the movie industry, the entertainment industry and even  the gaming industry, all of these industries are moving people away from developing new skills to mindless or mind numbing activity.

How much time are you spending on developing your skills?

  1. I teach the “Dynamic of Change” by offering the following statement: People Resist Change. Then I ask the audience if it is a true statement or a false statement. Invariably, they will state that it is true. Then I challenge them: “Is it always true…?”

    By modifying the statement slightly, you get a different perspective. “People sometimes resist change. But people almost always resist being changed.” This statement is much closer to the truth. The wise leader (or coach) recognizes this principle, then tries to create an environment that is conducive to positive change.

    When I was a sheriff, I ran two jails. I was often asked if our efforts to rehabilitate inmates were successful. First of all, I would answer that we were not RE-habilitating them. They needed to be HAbilitated. But you really can’t rehabilitate (or habilitate) anyone. What you CAN do is create an environment that encourages positive change.

    Coach, you are right on point. Getting better, by definition, means changing. Thanks for encouraging change in a positive direction…
