start the year in a new way

Start with this from Bruce Schneider the founder of iPEC coaching:

“The Awakening

One day you will awaken to realize that you’ve spent nearly all your time worrying about things you cannot control, being bothered by insignificant annoyances, and focusing on ego-related challenges.

On that day, you will also know that you’ve missed seeing a beautiful and entertaining world; a world filled with mystery, suspense, drama, comedy, and an unlimited opportunity to observe and fully appreciate the human experience.

Hopefully, that day will come soon, because when it does, you will smile as your body fills with a warmth that you will recognize as joy and you will be incredibly grateful that you are still alive and can choose how you want to spend the rest of your life.”

How do you want to create your life?

What is stopping you?

Where are your steps taking you?

living beyond the ordinary

“Ordinary people believe only in the possible. Extraordinary people visualize not what is possible or probable, but rather what is impossible. And by visualizing the impossible, they begin to see it as possible”

What kind of life are you living right now?   Is it the kind of life you really want or are you looking for something that would make your life more than just ordinary, plain, a dull grey rather than a life that is wonder filled, exciting and full of color.

Which column of words below describes your life?

Ordinary Extraordinary
Comfortable Uncomfortable
Reactive Proactive
Fearful Fearless
The easy way the right way
Self-centered Other-centered
Risk adverse Risk tolerant
What’s in it for me We all win
Closed Minded Open Minded
Resigned Engaged
Victim Creator
Stingy Generous
Judgmental Acceptance
Waiting Acting

What are you intentionally doing to make your life better?

What are you taking charge of?   What will it take so that you can start living an extraordinary life?

Step outside of your comfort zone and explore living  with feeling, with zest, with abundance, with a sense of being alive and with a sense of excitement.  Think about where you are right now and where you could be, what is it that you really want?  Set the intention and take action today.

do live your dream

“Be thankful for a breath of fresh air to be alive and well. Allow love and happiness to penetrate throughout your mind and soul. Take time to relax and live in the moment, the now, the present. Enjoy today.”

Did you know that most people don’t live their dreams?   Some people live the dreams that others have for them and live a life of regret.  Others don’t have a dream to push towards and live each day as it comes and live a life of regret.    Whose dreams are you living for?

Someone asked, “Write a story.”

“A story about what?”

“A story about your life”

“A story about my life – what is there to tell.”

If someone asked you to write your story or to tell your story what would you say?   What do you want to say?   What do you want to write?

Wouldn’t it be nice to write, “I lived my dreams.”

“What were your dreams … tell me more.”

“Umm, I didn’t live my dreams … I ….”

Now, do you want that to be your story?   Do you want your story to end with, “I didn’t ….?”   Most people don’t want their story to end at a dead end street.  I am thinking that you don’t want your story to end their either.

So, why not build a story by living out your dream.   If you don’t have a compelling vision of your future then it’s time to create one.   It’s time to start writing your story that doesn’t end with “I didn’t”.

Start writing your story today.

inspired leadership

“Authority confined in you does not make you a leader. It is the authority created by you that makes you influence people with your purpose.”

For some people it is only about results, not how the results were created but just that the results meet expectations.   Demands for results have never been higher and never before have people expended so much emotional energy in creating those results.   Longer hours and a thread to work that rarely goes away keeps the worker in constant contact with the work.

Does more work create a happier life?   Do you feel happier by working longer at your job?

One lady has decided that serving others is more important than finding ways to increase her financial success.   Barbara Crawford works with soldiers to help them repair the emotional wounds encountered in stressful situations.  Her goal is provide soldiers and families with resources to manage and control PTSD.  She does this at no cost for the soldiers, she volunteers her time to make a positive impact in the lives of others, that is her reward.

The easy thing to do is to work harder and put in more time doing work that will ultimately have little long-term meaning.   The inspired leadership approach allows one to make an investment that creates significance in life as well as success.    Inspired leadership allows one to focus on building a complete life as opposed to chasing things that supposed to represent a happy life.

Are you living an inspired life?   Are you leading yourself in the directions of your dreams?  Are you finding the balance between success and significance that bringing you greater joy?   I hope your answers are “yes”.

your better life

Your thoughts become your words,
Your words become your actions,
Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values,
Your values become your destiny.”

Are you living the life you want to live?    A lot of people aren’t living the life they want, they are existing but not living.   As a coach I get to talk to many people who are struggling and want to live a life that is different than the one they are living.

People are looking for a “secret” something that will improve their finances, fix a relationship, boost their career, help them lose weight, help them believe in themselves, repair broken relationships or to find joy and happiness in their lives.  There is no secret formula for creating the life you want without putting in the effort to get what you want.

Maybe the secret is a massive amount of work on the things you value the most.  The secret is starting and doing something that will lead to better results for you.

The point is that unless you do something different today your tomorrow won’t be any better than it was yesterday.   If you are waiting until conditions are perfect, until you have that one missing thing, before you start you’ll never ever start.

Your better life starts when you stop making excuses and decide to transform each day from now on.

How important is your health?

How important is your family?

How important are your relationships?

How important is your career?

How important is your personal and professional growth?

Take a few minutes and write down what is important to you.   Are you honoring what you value?

Many people choose to live a life of misery to show to their neighbors and friends how successful they are.   We equate success with finances and it isn’t working.   There are many, many people who have great bank accounts  who are living in personal poverty.   What is your life really like?  (Feel free to comment … share your story)

pursue peace

by Christian D. Larson

“Promise Yourself

To be so strong that nothing
can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity
to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel
that there is something in them
To look at the sunny side of everything
and make your optimism come true.

To think only the best, to work only for the best,
and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others
as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past
and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times
and give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself
that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear,
and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world,
not in loud words but great deeds.
To live in faith that the whole world is on your side
so long as you are true to the best that is in you.”

Think of ways to add peace to your life, for your good and for the good of others.   Think of ways to add a good deed to your life for your good and the good of others.  Think of ways to smile at a stranger for your good and for the good of others.  Think of ways to say a kind word to a person who needs to be lifted up for your good and for the good of others.   In this way you’ll find peace in our life for your good and for the good of others.

a new story

Story.   Your life is a story and throughout the pages of your story are moments of joy, regret, sorrow and excitement.   What do you want others to know about your story?

For some people their story is routine, bland and roughly the same everyday.   Year after year they go to work and come back to a place they call home.  The story repeats itself in the spring, summer, fall and winter.   There isn’t something that creates substantial meaning in their story.   It just moves from one clock tick to the next.  Life becomes more about dealing with the bills, weather and occasional routine disrupters that interfere with most people’s lives,  fixing a broken pipe in the dead of winter, mowing the grass, trying to plant a garden, tripping over a piece of worn carpet, getting to work and getting back, talking with the same group of people, complaining about things that won’t change, listening to the news realizing that the story is the same every night, getting groceries, eating, cleaning up, and life goes on.

Life goes on and living has somehow stopped.   Real goals linger as “should do” items on a dusty shelf.   Beauty gets swallowed into a sea of grey thinking.  The crisp edges of life disappear and are replaced with safe routine.

There comes a time in life where reflection of the life lived  begins to ring louder and louder, and begs the questions, “Did I live?”  For most people there is a deep desire to live a life that does matter that there was some contribution, that there was a story worth sharing with others.

What story do you want your life to tell?   What new story do you want to write?

What would make life interesting rather than routine?   What do you want your story to be about?

Start writing a new story today.
