imagine your way out

“man is so imprisioned by his own thinking tha the is simply incapable of fully understanding another standpoint.”    Carl Jung

Carl Jung indicates that we get stuck in our own thoughts and can’t see our way out of the situation we are in.   I was reminded of that not long ago that in the midst of a thorny problem I could only see thorns.   There didn’t appear to be a way out of the thorns.   The reason for that is when we focus on the immediate issue we are consumed in that moment with only one thing, a solution that will work and we resort to our practiced behaviours to figure a way out.

Maybe you have experienced a situation that was just consuming all of your energy.  Your mind was grinding away and the problem just wouldn’t go away.  “I’ve tried everything and I ….”, and perhaps those are the words you used while in the deepest recess of the problem.

Our approach to problems is generally a result of using what worked once in the past, or maybe an approach that someone else used and worked.   Sometimes it is just a grand experiment, an unplanned experiment, just to do something.

What would it be like if all that could change?   What would it be like if you could actually find a new and better way to solve some of life’s more tricky problems?

What could you do that would transform your thinking?   If the answer is “I don’t know”, then try this, imagine for a moment that you have the answer, imagine that answer emerging right in front of you.    What would the answer be now?

my best year ever

“The least of things with a meaning is worth more in life than the greatest of things without it.”

Carl Gustav Jung

What is 2010 going to look like?

Are you setting new goals with a new anticipation of what a new decade will bring?

Is 2010 the year that 25lbs of weight will be lost?

Will 2010 be the year that a new career is begun?

Will 2010 be the year that a family relationship will be restored?

In 2010, will it be the year that new friendships are made?

What will happen for you in the year 2010?

Will it be the year for adventure, romance, restoration, revelation, seeking, finding, keeping, building or stabilizing?   What do you want 2010 to be?   Will it be the start of something new?   Will it be the time you say, I can and will?

Will 2010 be the best year ever?   Will it lead to prosperity for the decade?

What happened between 2000 – 2009 in your life that made a positive difference?   What significant changes were you able to make that improved your life?

What happened in the world … ?   What happened in your decade?

What will your goals be for the decade?

What will your goals be for the next five years?

What will your goals be for 2010?

What meaning do you want to add to your life?

What will keep you from achieving your goals?

In many cases the only thing stopping people from achieving their goals is the self.   The excuses will form on the tip of the tongue why such-and-such couldn’t be done.     “I didn’t have time”, “I didn’t have the money”, “I had to do”, “I couldn’t find …”, and on and on.

Write down your goals.

Focus on your goals.

Create weekly measurable goals that will help you reach your target goal.

Have someone help you stick to your goals (anyone who will be able to work with you week after week).

It is your life; the life you create, the life that you desire can be exactly what you want if you want it to be.

Make 2010 the best year ever, make the decade the best decade ever.

life with meaning

Carl Jung “The least of things with a meaning is worth more in life than the greatest of things without it.”

Aristotle “Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence.”
Which is more important?
Giving to the world all of who you are.
OR
Having the world give to you all that it can.
What has meaning to you? Giving of your talents, gifts, skills and strengths in an epic battle to make a difference or sitting back and waiting for things to fall into your hands?
Many people struggle everyday to find out what they were meant to do and to find meaning and purpose in their life. Many people seek financial rewards hoping that when they receive those rewards they will have achieved their purpose and often they find that the holes in their life are not smaller but larger. Many people follow the path of consumption medicating their spirit with new things only to find that the newness wears off after a few days and the immediate joy is gone only to be replaced with emptiness.
What are you doing that provides meaning and purpose in your life?

To dream a dream

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.   Anatole France

Dreams can fuel life if they are acted upon.  Take your dream, have you acted upon it?   Have you taken the steps necessary to make that dream come true?

One reason dreams only live in the ephemeral realm of the imagination is they aren’t captured and recorded.   A dream that only lives in the mind is the kind of dream that becomes fantasy.   The dream that is written down can take shape and form and become real.

Some simple steps to take the dream from the imagination to reality would be:

1. Write it down.

2. Reflect upon it.

3. Develop it.

4. Act upon it.

5. Create it.

6. Live it.

What are you doing with your dreams?

Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart. Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens.   Carl Jung
