become all that you were meant to be

Everyday we start new – we start with the ability to change what we have become and rewrite that script to become what we desire.  It is possible and all it takes is a change in attitude – a switch – a desire to become all that we were destined to become – to be all that we were and should be.

What is stopping you from becoming all that you were designed to be?

“Your beliefs become your thoughts,
Your thoughts become your words,
Your words become your actions,
Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values,
Your values become your destiny.”
— Mahatma Gandhi

Your dreams, where did they come from?   Where are your dreams taking you?

Think back to a time that you were the happiest, what did that look like?   What did it sound like?   What did it feel like?   What did it taste like?   Can you remember that time when you felt the most alive, the most vibrant, the most in touch with all of who you are?

Wasn’t that an exciting moment?   Wasn’t that powerful?   What was that experience that brings to life so much life and joy and potential?

What would it be like to live that experience all over again?   What would it be like to live each day with the potential of experiencing life as full as it was once before?

It is possible to live life with greater joy right now.

Think future

Think about the future, one year, five years, and ten years into the future. What do you see happening at each of those milestone years? Are you planning that far ahead? Are you setting goals that are realistic (in line with your strengths and values)?

What does the next year look like? Are you just surviving each day and hoping that some really great opportunity falls into your lap?

Life doesn’t happen by accident it happens by intention. That means having intentional goals that drive intentional results. When waiting for things to happen will invite a future for sure and it may not be the future you desire. Define the future and work towards making that goal, dream or vision come to life. Be in charge of your destiny rather than having destiny be in charge of your life.

What can you do to make the future happen for you?

Give the future some thought and then take action.

“My will shall shape the future. Whether I fail or succeed shall be no man’s doing but my own. I am the force; I can clear any obstacle before me or I can be lost in the maze. My choice; my responsibility; win or lose, only I hold the key to my destiny.”   Elaine Maxwell

Desires of the heart.

I wonder how often it is that where we are today becomes our destiny.   Can you imagine what it would be like to find the desires of your heart?   What does that look like for you?

It is easy to be brave from a safe distance.

“As long as we are persistent in our pursuit of our deepest destiny, we will continue to grow. We cannot choose the day or time when we will fully bloom. It happens in its own time.” — Denis Waitley

“To make a man happy, fill his hands with work, his heart with affection, his mind with purpose, his memory with useful knowledge, his future with hope, and his stomach with food.” — Frederick E. Crane

On February 28, 1803, President Thomas Jefferson received the permission to send Lewis and Clark on a mission of discovery. Their goal was to explore uncharted territories, to learn about the West and to find the passage to the Northwest. Beyond the Mississippi was a mystery, it was the unknown land, it was where Indians lived and perhaps the Wooly Mammoth.

Lewis and Clark had to have great courage to face the obstacles that would challenge their expedition.

Our lives are like that Lewis and Clark expedition. We want to discover, we want to experience, and we want to live fully. Imagine the courage it took to face each day not knowing what you would see around the next bend in the Missouri River. Would you face sickness, weather, or the environment as each day progressed. Lewis and Clark experienced the wild; they lived in it and were challenged by it.

What are the necessary attributes to explore?

Destiny – Destination

Openness to change

Are these the same attributes we need in the world we live in today? What makes those attributes important? How do those attributes inform you? How do you define those attributes? What other attributes does one need to perform in today’s world?

What is IT?

Looking for IT!

How much time is spent searching? How much time is spent wondering what life is all about? The questions keep coming as if in a swift moving river.

Searching for IT. Searching for purpose, meaning, excitement, significance, satisfaction, success, happiness, joy, contentment, or life itself, searching for IT and it doesn’t come to you in a form that can be easily understood. Sure it does for some people. Some people know and find and locate their life’s destiny path at an early age. Others seek and seek and seek never quite knowing exactly what it is they are looking for.

What if the journey ended today, what would you have written on your life story map. What would it look like? What lives would have been touched? What things would have been better? What smiles would have been brought to the faces of those you care about?

That is IT isn’t it? What does the painting look like? What were the colors used? Were they bold and expressive or dark and scary? What does your story look like? Is it the story you want written?

If it isn’t the story you are thinking should be written then what is it that you want written on the pages of your life? What will your map look like?

Locate the landmarks on your map, the map of your life so far. What are those special things that you would find on the map? What would you tell others were on your map? To what heights have you climbed? From what valleys have you climbed out?

From a coaching perspective a coach becomes a catalyst for personal change, the change that you desire. A coach can help you locate a landmark on your life’s journey that you want to magnify or amplify. Perhaps there is nothing on your map that intrigues you to the point you find passion in it. A coach would help you explore something new, perhaps helping you move to a new location on the map that has never been explored. When you have the opportunity to explore new areas there is the chance to grow into something you haven’t imagined. There is power in personal transformation – to be what you desire to be, to fulfill all that you were meant to be. That is IT.

“History teaches us that men are in the whirlpool … will have to work out their destiny within it.” Gandhi

What will your destiny be?

Survival of the wisest

The leaders from now on must be champions of cooperation more often than competition. While the power to maintain access to resources and to deter aggression will remain vital, the “survival of the fittest” mentality must give way to “the survival of the wisest”, a philosophy of understanding, cooperation, knowledge and reason. The real leaders will get what they want by helping others get what they want.” Dennis Waitley from “Safari to the Soul”

The last sentence in that quote is a large part of what coaching is all about. It is about helping others get what they want. In many cases it will be identifying what others want and then creating the charts and maps for them to reach that temporary destination.

Our maps are ephemeral in a sense that they need to be continually updated as we reach or approach the desired destination. Change is the force that pushes us in new directions on a continual basis. To stand in one place in some form is loss. To flow with the winds of change or to master the winds of change and to sail deliberately to some place gives meaning and purpose to life.
