live out your dream

“Some ideas are not born of logic and good sense. They are made of clouds and cobwebs. They sprout from nowhere and feed on excitement, sprinkled with adventure juice and the sweet flavor of the forbidden. The psyche moves from the realms of the ordinary and takes a delicate step towards the unknown. We know we shouldn’t and that is exactly why we do.”
― Brigid Lowry

What are your dreams?   No, not the things you dream at night, but your dreams, desires and longings?   What do you really want to accomplish in your life?

What actions have you taken to get your dream off of the ground?

If you’re like most people you haven’t taken your dreams seriously.   You might be thinking dreams are for those other people, those people who have the time, the money, the …., the something you don’t have.

Your life has the greatest meaning, the greatest potential when you put into energy and heart into living out one of your dreams.   Think about it, what makes you come alive most?   Is it the work you are doing now?  Is it?

Take a step towards living that dream.  Maybe it’s making a small change in your life.  Maybe it’s taking a vacation that you’ve been thinking about for years.   Maybe it’s time right now to start doing rather than dreaming about your dream.

Explore the dream … see what a dream can look like for you.

Look at Josh’s idea of a dream.

messages to myself

“We are what we imagine ourselves to be.”
Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

What messages are you sending to yourself?

Where are you putting your thought energy?

How are your thoughts serving you today?

For many people they are stuck in their thoughts.   Their thoughts instead of leading them to accomplish great things drain them of the energy they need to move forward in life.

Think about how you thoughts control your emotions.   How do you feel when you think poorly of yourself?

What if you changed one thought today, just one, to something more positive and more beneficial for you?

Change a thought “I don’t have ….”, to “I desire to have …”.
Take the old negative pattern and replace it with a positive image of what you do want and focus on it for a day.   Shift your thinking patterns from worry to problem solving.

After creating a place for positive thoughts, thoughts that direct your life to positive outcomes, you will start to produce the results you desire.

A good place to start would be to turn off the TV, turn off the radio, stop reading the newspaper and any other source of information that is not building up your character.    Eliminate some of the negative information smog in your life and start the day with something that inspires your imagination.

Napoleon Hill wrote, “First comes thought; then organization of that thought, into ideas and plans; then transformation of those plans into reality. The beginning, as you will observe, is in your imagination.”    What a great place to start.

“In art, the hand can never execute anything higher than the heart can imagine. ”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

What is true for art is true for life.   The life you imagine is the life you can live.   The first objective is to imagine and then to believe that image can become true.

The secret to success is not a secret, it is a formula that  has been time tested, it is a formula that most people know but fail to apply.     To succeed one must first believe that the dream is achievable.  Believe to achieve.   Success starts with an idea, and idea that ferments in the mind until it is believable.

What the mind can perceive the mind can achieve.    It starts with a thought, an image, a need that hasn’t been addressed and a desire to see that dream come true.    Organizations like Tom’s shoes, Kiva, Hewlett-Packard and scores of other businesses and non-profits leaped off the page of imagination and in to reality.

It doesn’t mean that fantasy will come true, but realistic, idealistic and far reaching ideas can be achieved with time and work.   What do you want to achieve?   What are you willing to believe?

What can you imagine today that could become true tomorrow?

free to flow

pict0026The natural dance of water as it cascades on its downward trek towards its destination is called flow.  The water is not deterred in seeking its ultimate goal.    Even the obstacles that block the path and flow of water only do so temporality.

Water that is moving has power.   Water that stands still becomes stagnant and polluted.

Our lives are like water in many respects in that we need to keep moving, learning and growing.   To sit still for long periods of time is to grow stagnant.

What new ideas are flowing within you?

The quality of the imagination is to flow and not to freeze” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Release your gifts and talents

“What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
like a raisin in the Sun?
Or —-?

Langston Hughes

“I (Robert Greenleaf) counsel you to be aware of your priceless gift of creativity. No matter how small and flickering a light it may seem to be at the time, cultivate it as a pearl beyond price. Whatever your competence in your chosen field turns out to be, and regardless of the size of the opportunities that may come your way in the foreseeable world, your imaginative capacity will measure the productive use of your strengths and opportunities.” Robert K. Greenleaf “The Power of Servant Leadership”, 98)

Are you aware of the gifts you have?

Have you cultivated your gifts so that you can maximize the results of your gifting?

Are you able to use your gifts in a way that passion is aroused within you?

Granted the questions are yes/no answers, and if the answers are no, what are you going to do to release the gifts that you have hidden away so that they can be a benefit to you and to others?

What can you do today to start utilizing your gifts, talents and strengths?
