living the dream life …

“Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves.”  Henry David Thoreau

This begins a series of short posts on creating and living a better life though discovery, dreams, design and destiny.   The four components are part of a larger body of knowledge known as Appreciative Inquiry.   Using the AI techniques one can create a plan that will move along a path of life that is rewarding and satisfying.   Many people are living life without enjoying the life they are living, they are suffering from financial woes, a dissatisfying career, living in unsupportive relationships and feeling alone in a turbulent world.

What kind of life do you really want to have?    What would make each day worth getting out of bed for?    What would need to change to have a life that would engage your sense of being?

For many people discovering what they really want out of life would be enough to raise their daily energy.   Darren Hardy wrote, “The great tragedy of life is not poverty or hunger or even death.  The great tragedy is that we could, but we don’t, we should, but we won’t.”   We have something deep within, something that could come alive and provide a sense of purpose that keep us moving in a direction that supports who we are.    Over the years life may have coated your spirit with an opaque layer of doubt, fear, worry and a belief that nothing can be done and that a happier life is only a myth.    Let’s break the myth … let us find a path that does lead to greater happiness.

“Dream your dreams with open eyes and make them come true.”  T. E. Lawrence

A dream is the unrealized intention that is capable of transforming your current situation or position in life.   A dream is a motivational force that when acted upon will produce the results you desire.  A dream is a story without restrictions or boundaries that if achieved would produce the feelings, a smile from the depths of the soul, that would carry one through the momentary troubles of life.

What dreams do you have that are not blossoming?   What would you like to do differently that would allow you to start living out your dreams?

“Design acknowledges change. Its meaning encompasses change in our times. To design is to ‘create order and to function according to a plan.’ The notion of change and design move along the same path.”  Sara Little Turnbull

A dream without a plan is just a dream.  Design a plan that allows you to realize your dream.   Allow yourself to be the creator of your world.   Create a plan for your life that allows you to live and breathe the life you want to live.

“Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice.”  William Jennings Bryan

Destination is the place to arrive at and along the pathway is the work that will need to be done to find yourself at the place you have dreamt about and thought about and planned for, it is your destiny.    Your destiny is a life by design rather than a life by chance.   The destination is the manifestation of your strengths, desires, and passions.  It is the place that you can arrive at and truly feel satisfied.    It is more than just a journey, it is about the meaning that entered your life along the way.

Using the words of Emily Dickinson, “I live in possibility” is a rendition of what could be, it is what many seek and desire, the ability to change the world through confidence in self.

What do you want your destiny to be?

power words

Living a life by design is considered by many to be the preferred path towards greater happiness. We create our world and we interpret the world we live in by the words we choose to use. It is not how the world appears to us that matters, as it the way we describe that world. Words form pictures in our minds, pictures of what is, a picture of what is yet to be, and pictures of what was. These words and pictures bring either comfort or pain.

Words that can produce positive emotions like:

Gentle breeze

soft sounds

Peaceful waters

Delicate fragrance

Harmonious laughter

Calm, warm, pleasant, …

What words evoke a sense of peace, tranquility, and beauty?

In the 1965 motion picture “The Sound of Music” the power of words were used to describe how song, music can infect the soul with the meaning of song.

The hills are alive with the sound of music
With songs they have sung for a thousand years.
The hills fill my heart with the sound of music
My heart wants to sing every song it hears.
My heart wants to beat like the wings
Of the birds that rise from the lake to the trees,
My heart wants to sigh like a chime that flies from a church on a breeze,
To laugh like a brook when it trips and falls
Over stones on its way
To sing through the night like a lark who is learning to pray.
I go to the hills when my heart is lonely,
I know I will hear what I’ve heard before.
My heart will be blessed with the sound of music
And I’ll sing once more.

Words create moods and are used to describe moods.

What words do you use that are uplifting, freeing and enabling? What words do you use that are draining, tiresome, weighty and confining?

By choosing words that are an expression of creation, building, designing, freeing and liberating you will see your life tendencies and interpretations start to move towards more abundance.

For the next week alter your thoughts, choose words that are a more powerful description of what you want your world to look like. Become an artist and use words that are vibrant in color, deep in meaning, lofty in expression and filled with uncommon beauty.
