Live energetically

“Love the moment and the energy of the moment will spread beyond all boundaries.”

Sister Corita Kent

Energy is the source of our life and the more engaging positive energy we have inside us the better our life will be.    When you have great thoughts your life improves.   When you have thoughts that everything is going to go wrong it usually does.   We focus on what we want to see rather than focusing on what is really there.

Think about the car you drive, you probably see all kinds of those cars when you are driving because you are aware of that type of car.   So much of what happen around us is based on our view of the world, and what we are paying attention to.   Pink elephants.

If it is your thoughts that make you “feel” a certain way then what would it take to change those thoughts.   Why are you thinking what you are thinking right now?

What are you worried about?

What do you fear?

What is causing you anxiety or pain?

What pushes your buttons?

What makes you angry?

What makes you happy?

Now, these questions aren’t causing anything to happen, but your reaction to the questions might.   For example your buttons might get pushed by the way someone drives, maybe they drive too slow, or they don’t signal their intentions, or they pull right in front of you even though there is an open road ahead.   Maybe it is the incessant whine of a child who isn’t getting what they want.  For some people who don’t have children a child who is crying or whining gets on their nerves.

So, things that push your buttons rob you of your energy.  You start to feel stress and that negative energy wants to be released.    Likewise when you are filled with positive energy (laughter, joy,  happi ness) you want to release that energy as well.   Which would you rather share, your positive energy or your negative energy?   Which energy do you think brings people towards you and engages them?    Someone laughing hysterically usually draws on-lookers as they want to have whatever that happiness is.   Someone yelling angrily will cause people to walk as far away as possible from that situation.

Your energetic view of life is a choice that you make.  If your thoughts are generally negative and disempowering then you’d feel a lot better if you could shift those thoughts to positive ones.   Those who have a positive outlook on life would feel even better when they are able to increase their positive thinking.

What kind of thoughts do you most frequently have?

What kind of thoughts do you want?

What is stopping you from having more positive thoughts?

Go ahead … think positive

What are you thinking right now?   Are you thinking of possibilities?   Are you thinking about what can be?   Are you thinking I will do better tomorrow?   Are you thinking I can?   Are you thinking positive thoughts?  What are you thinking?

“Positive thinking is a mental attitude that admits into the mind thoughts, words and images that are conductive to growth, expansion and success.”, writes Remez Sasson

How many of the negative thoughts that you have each day really come true?   Wouldn’t it be possible that just as many positive thoughts would come true if you were thinking about those first?   It is possible for good thoughts to create good things.   Sonya Lyubromirsky believes that thinking positive can yield positive results.

Just shifting some of your thoughts from negative to positive will have beneficial effects.  Imagine that you are happy even when you don’t feel like being happy.   Try to smile even when you don’t feel like smiling.   Think positive and watch your mood spiral upward.  Think about something silly that happened recently or even in your past.   Those thoughts can make you smile even when you think you shouldn’t.

What do the birds think when they are soaring high above the earth?   Are they thinking, “how cool is this?”

When you are driving to some destination do other drivers annoy and irritate you?   Why?   Just think about it, are they intentionally trying to irritate you?   If they are then that is their job.   Do they succeed and ruin your day or do you just laugh at them and let them go on their way?

“The truth emerging from the science is that feeling good is a wise investment in our future,” declares Barbra Fredrickson.

your thought patterns

In the past researchers focused on negative thought patterns and depression and now researchers like Martin Seligman, Tal Ben Shahar, Sonja Lyubomirsky and Gretchen Rubin are focusing on positive thinking.

When a negative thought enters your mind what do you do with it?  Do you dwell on it as if it were true?   Take an example from your past, a time when a negative thought just turned over and over in your mind.   What was that thought?

Evaluate the thought through the prism of these four questions to see if the thought is true.

  1. Is the thought true?
  2. Can you absolutely know that it is true?
  3. How do you feel when you have that thought?
  4. Who would you be or what would you feel if it you didn’t have that thought?

Now, reverse the thought and change it to its opposite.

  1. Is the thought false?
  2. Can you absolutely know that it is false?
  3. How do you feel when you have that thought?
  4. What would you be or what would you feel if you did something with this thought?

Which scenario is more valid, the positive thought or the negative thought?   Which thought has the possibility of creating a better mood and better outcome?

Take time to think about the positive outcomes and your life will become more positive as a result.
