motivated

“Live your truth. Express your love. Share your enthusiasm. Take action towards your dreams. Walk your talk. Dance and sing to your music. Embrace your blessings. Make today worth remembering.”

Follow the path to your dreams

“I’m just not that motivated” said one client.

What does that mean?  What does it mean to not be motivated?   Isn’t motivation a choice that you make?    It almost sounds like there are no choices, no goals, or no actions that could be taken.

What do you do when you don’t feel motivated?

  • Wait
  • Watch TV
  • Dream

Dream.  That would be the starting point for creating something worthwhile pursuing.  It isn’t likely that waiting would help you get motivated.  TV is certainly not a motivational tool.  Spend some time writing down some things you would love to do.  Dream BIG.  Step outside the boundaries you have and dream about things that are just absolutely beyond what you know you can do today.

Write down those dreams.   Then pick one of those dream ideas and just think about what it would take to make that dream a reality.   What elements would be needed to make that dream a possibility?   Money, Time, Knowledge, Experience, People, …  What would you need to make that dream start to take shape?

Understand the gap between your dream and your current reality.  What would need to change to enable you to pursue your dream?   What are those big gaps?  What can you do to close those gaps bit by bit?

Create a plan that enables you to realize your goal in small bite-sized chunks.  Then take action.  Do a little each day.   Push through the resistance.

Don’t wait … motivate.

achieve

“The truth of the matter is that there’s nothing you can’t accomplish if: (1) You clearly decide what it is that you’re absolutely committed to achieving, (2) You’re willing to take massive action, (3) You notice what’s working or not, and (4) You continue to change your approach until you achieve what you want, using whatever life gives you along the way.” Anthony Robbins

2011 has come to an end  and now it is the beginning of 2012, how did  2011 go for you?   What did you achieve?   This is a great time to sit down and write down the things that you were going to do and matching that to what you really did do.   What did you do?

What lessons did you learn from the past year?   What will you do differently in the coming year?

It is time to program your mind for success.   It is time to write down goals for this year and put them in a place where you can see them on a daily basis.   Ideally they would be tacked to something you are going to view daily.    Read the goals daily and ask yourself what are you doing to bring you closer to achieving those goals.

Make achievement a practice and then practice achievement on a daily basis.   There are plenty of people who are resisting improving their life don’t be one of them.   If the TV is on turn it off.   Create a new habit that supports your goals.

finding the blindspot

Drivers of motor vehicles know that when they look in their side mirrors that there is a place where they can’t determine if there is a vehicle there or not.  That area is the blind spot.  If the mirrors are properly adjusted the blind spot can be minimized or even become non-existent.  Now if the rear view mirror is blocked and the side view mirrors are adjusted to eliminate the blind spot to the sides you’ll miss what is happening behind you.

Coaching is about helping people discover and eliminate their personal blind spots.  Now, some would say they have no blind spots and in that case coaching wouldn’t be needed.   Coaching is for those who want to make a step forward, and then another step and another until they have found all of their blind spots.

Is coaching about taking a risk?   Some people would be afraid or unsure that coaching is something they could benefit from.  Those people who engage in coaching are opportunity-focused.  That is they see the benefits of coaching to be far greater than any perceived risks.

Could it be that we are blind to the opportunities of transformational change?  In our own examined life we don’t see that there are benefits from seeking something greater than what we know now.  For some the curiosity of opportunity is great, far greater than the work and effort it takes to change transformationally to something better than they are today.

Opportunities to find deeper powers within ourselves come when life seems most challenging.  William James

I would imagine that many people are reluctant to challenge themselves for it is in those great challenges that growth is possible and in the growth is change and change creates fear which causes people to back down from the challenge.  A coach helps manage the fear and assists in finding the path that leads to true growth.
