beckon happiness

“Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.”    Marcus Aurelius

Your happiness … your thinking.

Would you like to increase your happiness – would you just like to be happier?

One way to increase happiness is to release the past (anger) and think about today, not tomorrow (anxiety) or next week, but just today.   By letting go of anger you’re letting go of the past.  The people I’ve talked to all have said there is nothing that they can do to change the past – so why live there.   There is nothing that can be done to change the past and by letting it go you permit yourself to experience greater happiness.

Take a deep breath.  Maybe a few of them, 3-5 minutes.  Get into a comfortable chair or position and just do some nice slow deep breathing.    Put on some nice music and put life on pause for a few minutes.  Deep breathing can really help calm the nerves and help you relax.  Go ahead try it.

Remove negative thoughts.  Are your thoughts true?   How do you absolutely know your negative thoughts are true?  Ask yourself, “How does this thought make me feel?”  and then “What would it be like if you didn’t hold that belief?”  In a few minutes you can test your thoughts and find out if they are helping or hindering you.

Take a moment to write down in a journal your thoughts.  Doing this before you go to bed helps you sleep better.   Better sleep means a better tomorrow.  Journaling is a way to release the past (what just happened) and allows you to examine your day.   What did you learn today?  What did you experience today?  What can you do to make it better tomorrow?

Increasing your happiness is just a few easy and quick steps away.  Start today.

Create your own happiness project

Gretchen Rubin the author of “The Happiness Project” has a new happy project ready to launch in American stores, “Happiness at Home”.    Projects that you can do to increase your own happiness.   Happiness isn’t something that happens to us, it is something we create within ourselves.

Listen to Gretchen provide some happiness hints.  Getting started on being happier is something that you can do and it doesn’t cost a lot.   Becoming happier might mean giving something up, something that is energy draining.

Maybe your one of those people who for whatever reason gets stuck and delays doing the work you know you should do.   How do you get out of that rut of procrastination, here’s a tip.

The idea is to generate some fun ways to get excited about life everyday.  Small happiness moments that can elevate your mood and your view of life.    Thinking positive or in positive ways cultivates creative activity and creative activity provides benefits.   Negative thinking is often destructive and energy robbing and doesn’t generate much in benefits.   So why not change your way of thinking and put more time into building momentum for creative events in your life.

Start generating more happiness in your life today.   If you can’t do it by yourself hire a coach to work with you so that you can start living that life you really want to live.   Happiness matters.

when will the pain go away …

“Pain can be endured and defeated only if it is embraced.  Denied or feared, it grows. ”  Dean Koontz,  Velocity

Pain can be endured, denied it grows.   So many people are enduring pain and it grows each day and life seems to be all about managing pain rather than living with happiness.   Some people only see pain and nothing much else.

Not long ago I had a conversation with a person who believed the world was totally against her.   Her friends weren’t being friends.   Her life was in shambles and everything looked hopeless.   There was no energy to change.  Misery felt like a safe place because the thought of change was even more miserable.   “What if I failed again”, might be the words that would be uttered.   “Who cares about me?” and “There is nothing for me here?” .

What is your world like?   What are you experiencing?   Are you looking at the world in a  hopeful positive way or is it a world that seems to be pushing in on your very being with relentless pressure.

Emotional pain is something everyone faces and it is a matter of  how that pain is dealt with that makes a difference.

Emotional pain can be seen in all facets of daily life, anger, violence, withdrawal, grief, sadness and living as a victim.

One of the tools for addressing emotional pain is EFT or Emotional Freedom Techniques.   This is a simple, no cost method, of reducing or eliminating emotional suffering.   The method works with a variety of emotional issues.   It works for most people.  Those with severe emotional trauma the recommendation is to seek professional guidance before trying EFT.    EFT is something to look at if you have been dealing with emotional issues for a long time.

For parents with children with ADHD, EFT may offer a simple quick way of managing the ADHD symptoms.   While EFT isn’t a cure for ADHD it may prove effective when many other forms of ADHD management haven’t.

Where would you rate the emotional pain level in your life on scale of 1 – 10, 1 = none or very little to 10 = extreme?    If you are experiencing emotional pain above a 6 you may want to seek some help.   At the minimum consult with a professional and see if there are some techniques that will help you reduce your emotional burden.

How have you managed emotional pain?

Courage is simply the willingness to be afraid and act anyway.”

 Dr. Robert Anthony

What kind of energy are you walking around with?   Is it energy that is positive, motivating, inspiring, creative and passion filled?   If your energy is positive then you are living with what is known as anabolic energy, the kind of energy that gives you the desire to put in 100% to the work you are doing.   The other kind of energy is catabolic.   It is destructive and can rob you of the desire to do what your heart is telling you to do.

So, what is anabolic and catabolic energy and why does it matter.   First of all it matters because when our lives are filled with catabolic energy, negative energy, we falter, we sputter, we at times fall victim to our thoughts and mutter words that are destructive to self and others.     When someone is complacent, apathetic, whining, worrying, anxiety filled, and living as a victim that is an energy robbing state.   You probably know  people who just drain the energy right out of you.   What would you feel like if you could identify and live in a more positively energetic day?  What would it mean to you to have a lot less catabolic energy in your life?

Think about it – it would mean greater success, significance, confidence, passion, commitment, creativity, joy, peace, and happiness in your life and who wouldn’t want more of that?

Next time – anabolic energy, and how that can impact you.
