ain’t got no satisfaction

“True happiness is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future, not to amuse ourselves with either hopes or fears but to rest satisfied with what we have, which is sufficient, for he that is so wants nothing. The greatest blessings of mankind are within us and within our reach. A wise man is content with his lot, whatever it may be, without wishing for what he has not.”
― Seneca

How would you describe your life right now?   Satisfied, happy, joyful, content or would it be more like stressed, overworked. anxious, unhappy, confused, bored, consumed, or angry?

What would you say about your life today?   What do you want to say about your life?

Ponder those questions, give them some thought and really try to determine where you are in life today.

If you are satisfied, content and enjoying life you’re probably one of a few that do.  Many people are finding themselves more stressed and more discontent than ever before.   If you are one of the many who find themselves highly stressed what are you doing about it?   What steps are you taking to lower the total stress in your life?

To de-stress consider eating better, getting eight hours of sleep and adding exercise to your daily routine.  At work, get up and move every hour for a few minutes, do some deep breathing and stretch.   Schedule time each day to relax and do something enjoyable.   For some people de-stressing includes doing something for others (volunteering) and for others a long quiet walk will do the trick.

If you are stressed take action to lower that stress load.  The impact of negative stress over time can impact your health and well-being.   Notice the warning signs of stress – fatigue, increased anger, impatience, depression, or sadness and take action to lower the stress in your life.

If you’re not satisfied with your life as it is – take action to make some changes.  Take action to lower the stress that may be impacting our quality of life and start today.

Plateau

“Most of us plateau when we lose the tension between where we are and where we ought to be.”
~ John Gardiner

Is where you ought to be well defined in your life?

I am

coaching is for …. most people

Who is coaching for?

It is for people who want to become better at who they are on an accelerated track.  It is not unusual for people who have a coach to have a quantum leap in personal happiness.  This happiness may be driven by achieving more significance in their lives whether it is at home, at work or in the community.

In general most well adjusted people will benefit from having a coach.  There are some though that a coach should not apply their method of Socratic inquiry.  There are some who would benefit from therapy.  Sometimes the trials of life create disappointment and perhaps even period of depression which is beyond the skills, training and expertise of a coach.  There are times when a coach should recommend that a client seek out professional treatment.

For many people the results of their experiences will be in many respects mostly positive.  Life will be good, not great but good.   For a few very motivated people they might even rise to the level that someone who is coached would attain but that would be a rare occurrence.

Often we don’t know what would generate a quantum leap in personal performance.  We might be missing the questions, the discipline or the accountability to go it alone and to find what truly makes us happy.

Looking at the chart we can see time moving along the horizontal axis and as we reach the zenith of our careers, family or community life we should be at some elevation that is higher than it was when we first embarked on our journeys.   As our story unfolds we should see things steadily improve as we gain in wisdom in knowledge.

There are some factors that interrupt our journeys and those could be illness, job loss, family crisis or other significant life events that cause our path to deviate from its planned destination.  There are those who can help people navigate the crisis which helps people with significant interruptions in their journey to reengage with life.

If there is a desire to fully experience life then think about getting a coach to help you realize your goals.

Karen Lamb said, “A year from now you may wish you had started today.”

Ambition

“Ambition is so powerful a passion in the human breast, that however high we reach we are never satisfied.”

–Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

What if we substituted “ambition” with “significance”, would that become a true and viable statement?

Is ambition the right thing to never be satisfied about? Certainly ambition is tied to achievement and measurable results. Without ambition what would ever get done? Is ambition such a powerful passion that it is unquenched in the soul of man?

Is significance more important than ambition? It is doing what matters rather than what doesn’t matter from a big picture perspective. What are your thoughts?

In this life we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love.
-Mother Teresa
